What a buyer should interrogate before signing anything
The mechanism, stated plainly
Every claim on this page reduces to one sequence: a diagnostic estimates what a person knows per concept, a decay model forecasts when each concept will fade for that person, and the scheduler books a retrieval just before the forecast dips. Everything else — dashboards, evidence exports, at-risk flags — is that model’s output rendered for a different audience.
This matters commercially because it is checkable. Ask any vendor to explain why a specific learner is being shown a specific question at a specific moment. A platform running a real model answers with an ability estimate, a decay forecast and a confusion edge. A platform running a content playlist answers with a rule someone configured, and the difference shows up two quarters later in what people can still do.
The strongest objection: ‘our people won’t do daily practice’
It is the right objection, and the honest answer is that adherence is a design problem rather than a willpower problem. Sessions run about ten minutes, on a phone, and the engine trims them to what is genuinely due — someone whose material is fresh gets a shorter session rather than filler. Streaks and visible mastery do the motivational work that mandates cannot.
The part vendors tend to skip: adherence holds when managers can see it. Once weekly currency sits on a team dashboard beside the other numbers a manager reviews, practice stops being an L&D request and becomes an operational expectation. Where that visibility is missing, adherence decays regardless of how good the learning experience is — which is why the manager view ships as part of the product rather than an add-on.
The edge case: knowledge that is already used daily
Spaced retrieval earns the most on material that carries consequence but is rarely exercised — escalation procedures, annual compliance rules, product edge cases, anything needed under pressure months after training. Material used every day self-reinforces, and scheduling review for it is waste.
The engine handles this automatically, since frequently-retrieved concepts stretch to long intervals and effectively leave the queue. But it is worth knowing when scoping a pilot: choosing a course whose content the team practises hourly will understate the effect. Pick the material that fails you, not the material that already works.

Do we have to rebuild our training content?

How long does rollout take?
